Philippine Consul General to Sydney the Honourable Maria Teresa L. Taguiang made a farewell call on Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, Governor of New South Wales, at Government House in Sydney. The officials held a broad discussion on Philippine-Australian relations, recalling the countries’ many areas of common interest. Consul General Taguiang highlighted the contributions of the Filipino community in Australia, and the increased business and education ties between the Philippines and Australia. Governor Beazley, who prior to her tenure at Government House enjoyed a long and distinguished legal career, particularly cited law enforcement cooperation and the leading role of women in government and the judiciary as areas of significance. The Governor of New South Wales is appointed by the Sovereign and is her representative in New South Wales, and performs Constitutional, Ceremonial and Community functions at the State Level. The call of the Philippine Consul General was made ahead of the former’s completion of tour of duty later in the month.
