17 June 2024, CANBERRA – Ambassador of the Philippines to Australia Ma. Hellen De La Vega joined community-led events in New South Wales in celebration of Philippine Independence, Pista sa Nayon and Kalayaan Cup Golf Tournament, on 10 June 2024.

The “Pista sa Nayon” was organized by the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisation (APCO) Official Inc. at the Granville Centre NSW paying homage to the fiesta culture of the Philippines. The event featured regional cuisine and performances from the Philippines and partners from other migrant communities.

Ambassador De La Vega and Dr. Hugh McDermott MP, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Prospect, led the ceremonial toast.

They both acknowledged the significant contributions of the Filipino-Australian community in the strength and diversity of multicultural Australia.

Kalayaan Inc. celebrated the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence at Peakhurst NSW through a golf tournament. The tournament, now in its 29th year, attracts more than 100 Filipino-Australian golfers and enthusiasts from other migrant communities.

The Ambassador participated in the formal awarding ceremony of the tournament. -END-
