12 March 2021, CANBERRA - The Philippine Embassy in Canberra is pleased to announce that the Philippines will participate in one of the oldest and most prestigious exhibition platforms for contemporary art, the 59th Venice Art Biennale in 2022. Since 2015, the Philippine pavilion at the Biennale served as the country’s contribution in the global conversation on the world’s condition to propose course of action.
Filipinos in the Philippines and overseas are invited to submit curatorial proposals for the Philippine participation in 2022, spearheded by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of Deputy Speaker and Congresswoman Loren Legarda. The selected curatorial proposal will officially represent the Philippines in the 2022 Biennale.
The Open Call encourages Filipino practitioners to develop concepts for the Philippine Pavilion that are sensitive and responsive to the current realities, revealing contradictions and yet offering space for deep introspection and decisions.
Deadline for Curatorial Proposal is on 20 May 2021, 11:59pm (Philippine Time). Announcement of result is on 24 June 2021. For criteria, selection process and more information, visit the Philippine Arts in Venice Biennale website https://philartsvenicebiennale.org/.
