04 April 2025, CANBERRA – The ASEAN Committee in Canberra (ACC), currently chaired by the Singapore High Commission, met with leading Australian think tanks and academic institutions in a roundtable dialogue on 21 March 2025 aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and deepening mutual understanding on key geopolitical and economic issues through an exchange views on regional security, economic integration, climate resilience, and other strategic priorities.

Philippine Ambassador H.E. Antonio Morales of the Philippines highlighted the importance of open dialogue between ASEAN and Australia in addressing shared challenges and fostering stronger partnerships. He underscored the Philippines’ steadfast commitment to upholding maritime security and preserving a rules-based order anchored on international law.

The event forms part of the ACC’s broader efforts to promote and strengthen collaborative ties with Australia across various sectors.

Australia became ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner in 1974 and ASEAN’s first ever Comprehensive Strategic Partner in 2021. Over the years, the Australia-ASEAN partnership has flourished across a wide range of areas such as trade and investment, education, science and technology, countering transnational crime, tourism, and cultural exchange. - END
