04 April 2025, CANBERRA – The Philippine Embassy in Canberra, together with fellow ASEAN Missions, called on the Hon. David Coleman MP, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member for Banks, on 24 March 2025 at Parliament House and underscored the commitment to strengthen ties under the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Minister and Consul General Aian A. Caringal noted that as the Philippines and Australia approach 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, and with the Philippines set to chair ASEAN that same year, the Philippines looks forward to continued close collaboration with ASEAN and Australia to promote regional peace, security, and stability.
Shadow Foreign Minister David Coleman mentioned that the dialogue was a meaningful opportunity to engage and work together to strengthen relationships for mutual progress and benefit.
Australia was the first country to become ASEAN’s Dialogue Partner in 1974 and later, in 2021, its first Comprehensive Strategic Partner. Since then, the Australia-ASEAN partnership has grown steadily, encompassing diverse areas including trade and investment, education, science and technology, transnational crime prevention, tourism, and cultural exchange. - END
