13 October 2025, CANBERRA – Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong engaged the Southeast Asian Heads of Mission in Australia on 13 October 2025, at the Australian Parliament House in Canberra to discuss regional cooperation in advancing peace, stability, and prosperity.

Minister Wong emphasized that Australia’s security and prosperity are closely linked to Southeast Asia and reaffirmed Australia’s strong support for ASEAN’s central role in the region. She noted that the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 has strengthened two-way trade and investment between Australia and ASEAN.

Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio A. Morales underscored that the Philippines and Australia will mark 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. With the Philippines assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship that same year, he expressed the Philippines’ intent to work closely with ASEAN and Australia in advancing priorities on maritime cooperation, climate action, and regional peace and security.

Minister Wong welcomed the Philippines’ upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship and conveyed Australia’s support for its initiatives to promote regional stability and prosperity. – END –
