22 May 2025, SYDNEY - Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio M. Morales engaged Minister Anoulack Chanthivong, New South Wales Minister for Industry and Trade, Innovation, Science and Technology on 01 May 2025 to discuss ways to deepen two-way trade and investment between the Philippines and NSW.
Both officials reaffirmed the importance of strengthening economic ties particularly in light of the bilateral Strategic Partnership. Minister Chanthivong expressed keen interest in engaging with future visiting business delegations from the Philippines and highlighted the role of NSW as a hub for trade and investment. The Minister shared that the Western Sydney Airport, which is set to begin operations in late 2026, is a major opportunity to enhance connectivity and position NSW as a gateway to Asia.
Ambassador Morales emphasized the complementary nature of Philippine and Australian economic priorities. He encouraged Australian businesses to explore the Philippine market and highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize logistics and digital infrastructure. Ambassador Morales also noted that the improved connectivity through the Western Sydney Airport could serve as a vital link to support the increased flow of trade, tourism, and business between the Philippines and Australia and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable growth on both sides.
Minister Chanthivong also recognized the valuable contributions of the Filipino diaspora in NSW, noting that their strong communication skills and similarity in values have supported their successful integration and active participation in local communities. - END
