Philippines donates to Nauru’s COVID-19 Management Program

31 January 2023, Canberra - Ambassador Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega turned over to H.E. Camilla Solomon, High Commissioner of Nauru in Australia, the contribution of the Philippines to Nauru’s COVID-19 management program.

Since January 2020, there have been 4,621 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nauru, a country with a population of approximately 13,000 people. The Philippines sought to extend support and assistance to Nauru, a fellow Pacific nation, in mitigating the impacts of the pandemic through the provision of medical supplies. The contribution of the Government of the Philippines to Nauru in the amount of US$ 10,000 represents the solidarity of the Filipino people with the people of Nauru as they work together towards economic recovery and growth.

Ambassador De La Vega also congratulated Nauru on its 55th National Day celebration on 31 January 2023. During their meeting, the Ambassador handed the letter of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. congratulating Nauru President Russ Kun on the occasion of Nauru’s National Day. The Philippines and Nauru will also be celebrating 55 years of diplomatic relations in February 2023. -END-
