Philippine Embassy in Canberra Supports Nationwide Campaign “UNiTed for a VAW-free Philippines”

16 December 2022 - The Philippine Embassy in Canberra joined the observance of the 18-Day Campaign (November 25 to December 12, 2022) to End Violence Against Women.

The theme for 2022 is “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines” which aims to highlight the gains and milestones achieved in the efforts to prevent and address VAW in the country toward the assessment of VAW-related laws’ implementation and strengthening. It underscores the powerful impact of combining individual efforts towards a collaborative and united thrust towards a VAW-free Philippines.

The theme is aligned with the United Nations' global campaign, UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign (UNiTE), which is a multi-year effort aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) worldwide. It calls on governments, civil society, women’s organizations, young people, the private sector, the media, and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.

The Embassy provided its public copies of the Philippine Commission on Women’s (PCW) brochures on the Anti-VAWC Act (Republic Act 9262) and the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act 11313) and encouraged the reading of books related to Filipinas’ stories of migration to promote awareness. The Embassy also shared initiatives for the community to help end VAW.
