PH Embassy Welcomes PH Delegates to the AU Political Exchange Council

26 May 2023, CANBERRA – Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Aian Caringal welcomed on 25 May 2023 the 14th Philippine delegation participating in the political exchange program organized by the Australian Political Exchange Council. Leading the delegation was Mayor Eunice Babalcon (Paranas, Samar) and joined by Vice Mayor Roberto Antonio Leviste (Lian, Batangas), Vice Mayor Esther Patrisha Chatto (Balilihan, Bohol), Councilor Guisseppe Karl Gumban (Dumangas, Iloilo), Councilor Alexson Diaz (Muntinlupa), and accompanying officer Mona Celine Marie Yap (Quezon City Small Business and Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office Department Head).

The exchange program, which commenced in 1981, has provided participants the opportunity to learn about Australia and its political system and build enduring networks between young political leaders.

During their visit, the Philippine delegation traveled to Hobart, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra, where they engaged with officials from federal and state governments, including Australian alumni of the exchange program. They also met members from the Labor, Liberal, Nationals and Greens parties, as well as emergency services officials. In Canberra, the delegation had the privilege of meeting Hon Milton Dick MP, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and observing Question Hour at Parliament House.

The Philippines’ participation in the exchange program demonstrates the importance of building bridges between young leaders of both countries and contributing to the enduring relations of the Philippines and Australia. The Philippines celebrates Philippines-Australia Friendship Day on 22 May 2023. – END
