27 December 2024, PERTH – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canberra successfully conducted the last mobile consular mission for 2024 in Perth, Western Australia from 16 to 20 December 2024. The Embassy processed 196 passport applications and administered the oath of allegiance to 89 Filipinos who reacquired their Filipino citizenship through the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003.
The Embassy team included Consul Rainier Casis, Ms. Mary Irene Sadang, and Mr. Jessie Lucas. Supported by Honorary Consul Melissa Aguasa, the mobile consular mission offered essential services to the expanding Filipino community in Western Australia, alleviating the need for them to travel to Philippine Foreign Service Posts in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne.
According to the 2021 Australian Census, Filipinos are one of the largest migrant communities in Western Australia with over 40,000 Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent. - END
