16 December 2024, SYDNEY – The Philippine Embassy in Canberra and the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney successfully conducted a townhall meeting in New South Wales on 14 December 2024. The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants, including 80 Filipino community leaders representing 35 Filipino organizations based in NSW.

The townhall meeting provided more information on the programs and services of the Philippine Foreign Service Posts in Australia and also tackled updates on the Strategic Partnership of the Philippines and Australia.

Newly arrived Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Antonio Morales, was introduced to the Filipino community in NSW by Consul General Charmaine Rowena Aviquivil during the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Morales expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the Filipino community. He highlighted that Filipinos make up the fifth largest migrant community in Australia and echoed the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his address to the Filipino Community in March 2024 that the Filipino community's efforts have significantly enhanced the Philippines' image in Australia.

“At the heart of this partnership are the strong people-to-people connections that bind us. Filipino communities here in Australia are our best champions in showcasing our culture, heritage, and the warmth of Filipino hospitality. You are our best ambassadors in deepening Australia’s appreciation of the Philippines. We hope that with your steadfast support, we will continue building on these strong foundations,” Ambassador Morales stated.

The Ambassador also encouraged overseas Filipinos and dual citizens to show their love for the country and patriotism by voting in the 2025 national elections.

Consul General Aian Caringal of the Philippine Embassy provided an overview of the Strategic Partnership of the Philippines and Australia, including the close collaboration in the defense, security, trade and investment sectors and strong people-to-people connections.

Consul Sheila Marie Tario and Vice Consul Frances Cleofas briefed the community on the consular services provided by the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney.

New South Wales hosts the largest Filipino migrant community in Australia, with over 150,000 Filipinos. -END
