25 June 2025, CANBERRA - The Philippines and Australia reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism through strengthened cooperation and capacity-building during the recent Protect II Australia Learning Exchange, held from 23 to 26 June 2025.

Ambassador Antonio Morales welcomed and held discussions with the Philippine delegation, led by Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty, during the study visit. The delegation included key officials and experts from the Department of Defense, Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC).

The visit provided a platform to discuss best practices, operational strategies, and whole-of-government approaches in counterterrorism efforts. Key areas of cooperation included interagency coordination, legal frameworks, among other programs.

Ambassador Morales emphasized the importance of sustained international collaboration in addressing the evolving threat of terrorism and acknowledged Australia's continued support in enhancing institutional capabilities across justice and security sectors.

The Philippines and Australia’s partnership in counterterrorism is a cornerstone of their broader cooperation in defense, security, and law and justice. This collaboration was formalized in 2003 through a MOU aimed at enhancing joint efforts to combat international terrorism. - END
