20 May 2025, BRISBANE – The Philippine Embassy in Canberra successfully conducted a townhall meeting in Brisbane, Queensland 20 May 2025. The meeting was attended by more than 50 Filipino community leaders, entrepreneurs and representatives of different industries based in Brisbane and neighboring cities.
The townhall meeting provided the opportunity for Philippine Ambassador Antonio A. Morales to engage with the attendees during his first visit to Queensland. In his remarks, Ambassador Morales expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the Filipino community. He highlighted that Filipinos make up the fifth largest migrant community in Australia and echoed the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his address to the Filipino Community in March 2024 that the Filipino community's efforts have significantly enhanced the Philippines' image in Australia.
“At the heart of this partnership are the strong people-to-people connections that bind us. Filipino communities here in Australia are our best champions in showcasing our culture, heritage, and the warmth of Filipino hospitality. You are our best ambassadors in deepening Australia’s appreciation of the Philippines. We hope that with your steadfast support, we will continue building on these strong foundations,” Ambassador Morales stated.
The Ambassador also thanked the overseas Filipinos and dual citizens who participated in the recent Philippine national elections.
Consul Rainier J. Casis of the Philippine Embassy in Canberra provided an overview of the Strategic Partnership of the Philippines and Australia, including the close collaboration in the defense, security, trade and investment sectors and strong people-to-people connections.
