05 March 2025, MANILA - Philippine Secretary of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Ivan John E. Uy, met with the Philippine Ambassador to Australia on 18 February 2025 to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in cybersecurity and critical technology. This meeting follows the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cybersecurity and critical technology cooperation signed during the Guest of Government Visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Australia in February 2024.
The MoU sets the framework for collaboration in sharing information and best practices on cyber and critical technology issues, cyber skills development, strengthening digital economy connections, and enhancing multilateral coordination. Recognizing the vulnerabilities in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure security, both sides underscored the importance of expanding bilateral efforts to bolster resilience against cyber threats and foster a secure digital environment.
The meeting also builds on Secretary Uy’s participation in The Sydney Dialogue last 02-03 September 2024 which brought together global leaders and experts to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in cyber and critical technology. The participation of Philippine officials in this high-level forum underscored the country’s commitment to international cooperation in navigating the evolving cyber landscape.
As Philippines and Australia move forward with the cybersecurity cooperation under the Strategic Partnership, the meeting reaffirmed the Philippines' proactive stance in ensuring digital security, strengthening cyber capabilities, and fostering innovation- driven cooperation. - END
