09 December 2020, CANBERRA – The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines launched on 07 December “Fiesta Filipinas: An Online Celebration of Philippine Festivals.” Fiesta Filipinas is a six-part, multi-format online event series that will run from December 2020 until May 2021. It will simulate the experience of a Philippine festival through a combination of live and pre-recorded videos and live workshops and activities.
In celebration of the Christmas season, the first Fiesta Filipinas virtual event will be the Giant Lantern Parade (19 December). This will be followed by other well-known Philippine festivals such as the Sinulog, Ati-Atihan, and Dinagyang Festivals (30 January 2021), the Panagbenga Festival (27 February 2021), Visita Iglesia (20 March 2021), Lami-Lamihan Festival (24 April 2021), to end with the Flores De Mayo/ Santacruzan (29 May 2021).
Based on religious beliefs and traditions, Philippine fiesta is a significant part of Philippine culture and a demonstration of the strong sense of community of Filipinos. These festivals also serve as thanksgiving for rich harvest and have become great attractions for tourists visiting the Philippines. Fiesta Filipinas will be broadcasted through Facebook (@dfaphl) and Youtube (DFA Philippines). -- END
