01 July 2025, Henderson, WA - Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Antonio A. Morales visited the Australian Marine Complex (AMC), Western Australia's premier industrial precinct supporting the marine, defence, energy, and resources sectors. Located 23 kilometers south of Perth, the AMC is one of only two designated naval shipbuilding hubs in Australia.

Ambassador Morales was received by representatives of Development WA and AMC Management (WA) Pty Ltd, the operators of the complex. They provided insights into how the AMC’s shared infrastructure model has catalyzed industrial activity while enabling greater access for private sector innovation.

A key feature of the AMC is its Common Use Facility (CUF) which boasts specialized assets such as deep-water berths, a massive floating dock, fabrication halls, and load-out wharves. Since its inception, the AMC has supported more than 440 major projects, created over 50,000 jobs, and contributed in excess of AUD 3 billion to the Western Australian economy.

The visit included discussions on the evolving role of the AMC as part of Australia’s defence and security posture. The shipbuilding precinct, located across from HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, is positioned to play a critical role in future submarine operations under AUKUS.

Ambassador Morales underscored the potential for knowledge-sharing and technical collaboration between Australia and the Philippines, particularly in shipbuilding, maritime logistics, and industrial upskilling.

As a major seafaring nation and emerging shipbuilding hub, the Philippines is committed to working with partners like Australia to strengthen maritime infrastructure, build resilient supply chains, and promote sustainable blue economy practices. - END
