27 November 2025, CANBERRA – Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio A. Morales met with Hon. Madeleine King, Minister for Resources, Minister for Northern Australia, and Federal Member for Brand in Western Australia to discuss prospects on critical minerals and resources development.

Ambassador Morales recognized Australia’s leadership in sustainable mining practices and expressed the Philippines’ interest in learning from Australia’s experience. He noted that the Philippines, as a mineral-rich country, holds significant potential. Both sides underscored the importance of ensuring that mining delivers meaningful benefits to local communities and that proper environmental safeguards are maintained.

The Ambassador also highlighted the opportunity for the Philippines to participate in the regional and global value chain for critical minerals. He conveyed that with its mineral resources, and strategic location, the Philippines could serve as a complementary partner. Minister King and Ambassador Morales also tackled potential collaboration in energy and workforce development.

Ambassador Morales also highlighted the strong and enduring people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Australia. Filipinos were among the first Asian migrants to arrive in the 1860s in Broome, Western Australia and their descendants continue to contribute meaningfully to the wider Australian community.- END
