Air services talks held in Canberra

/ news

On 12-13 March 2009, a 16-member delegation from the Philippines was in Canberra to negotiate amendments to the Philippines-Australia Air Services Agreements with their Australian counterparts. The Philippine Air Negotiating Panel was composed of members of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), representatives from relevant government agencies such as Department of Tourism and Clark International Airport Corporation, as well as representatives of the Philippine airline industry. The delegation was headed by Undersecretary and Chairperson Doroteo A. Reyes II, Department of Transportation and Communications, and Undersecretary and Vice-Chairperson Franklin M. Ebdalin, Department of Foreign Affairs.

The negotiations were successfully concluded. It is foreseen that with the amendments, cheaper airfares and more convenient routes will be available to Filipinos and tourists travelling to and from these two countries as well as within the region. The original agreement was signed on 15 November 1971.
