Visit of the Family of the Late Filseafarer Nicomedes T. Sasana to Vanuatu

17 August 2022. Consul General Florentino Serrano received the family of the late OFW Nicomedes T. Sasana at the Philippine Honorary Consulate General’s office in Port Vila on 15 August 2022. Mrs. Ruth Jeane Sasana, together with daughters Nicole Laarni and Karen Nicole, paid a courtesy visit to Consul General and Mrs. Serrano to personally thank them for their assistance to the family and to the orderly burial of the late Sasana in 2021.

The family also expressed gratitude to the Ni-Vanuatu Government, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Canberra for the coordinated support and assistance extended to them.

The family visited Port Vila Cemetery to pay their respects to their beloved who was found dead in Pango Beach in Port Vila and was identified as COVID-19 positive on 11 April 2021. The late Filseafarer was laid to rest on 14 May 2021. The burial was arranged and attended by the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Port Vila with the assistance of the Vanuatu Government, local medical team, and members of the Filipino community in Vanuatu in accordance with the WHO requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. The burial ceremony was documented via Zoom livestream and covered by local and international media. END
