11 November 2024, CANBERRA – In a heartfelt tribute to the brave service personnel who sacrificed their lives for peace, Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega and Colonel Eduardo P. Castillo, PA GSC, Head of the Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, participated in the two-day Remembrance Day 2024 National Ceremony held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on 10–11 November 2024.
On 10 November, Ambassador De La Vega and Colonel Castillo laid a wreath on behalf of the Philippines, standing in solidarity with nations around the world in commemorating the lives lost in the pursuit of freedom. Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Ambassador De La Vega noted, “Today, we honor not only the courage and sacrifice of those who served, but also the enduring values of peace and unity that connect us across borders.”
The solemn ceremony continued on 11 November with the National Ceremony, where a moment of silence was observed by attendees, allowing for collective reflection on the shared histories and sacrifices that continue to shape the present. The event brought together representatives from various nations, underscoring the global commitment to remembrance and to ensuring that future generations understand the profound impact of service.
Through their participation over both days, Ambassador De La Vega and Colonel Castillo reaffirmed the Philippines’ dedication to honoring the past and to contributing to a peaceful, united future alongside the global community. END
