PH Embassy Visits Overseas Filipino Victims of Violence Against Women and Children

23 December 2022, CANBERRA – Consul General Aian Caringal visited Overseas Filipinos (OF) who were victims of violence against women and children (VAWC) in Brisbane, Queensland and Perth, Western Australia during the Embassy ATN team’s prison visitation program from 15 to 20 December 2022.

On 15 December 2022, the team visited two Filipino girls at one of the facilities of the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs (DCYJMA) in Brisbane. The girls are minor children and victims of sexual violence temporarily under the care of an Australian couple as part of a DCYJMA program.

On 20 December 2022, the Embassy team visited a Filipina survivor of multiple stab wounds in October 2020. The assailant is currently serving his 8-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

The Philippine Embassy continues to monitor their condition and undertake efforts and initiatives to promote awareness, prevent and help end VAWC. -END-
