03 July 2024, DARWIN – The Embassy of the Philippines in Canberra successfully conducted the mobile consular mission in Darwin, Northern Territory from 28 to 30 June 2024. The Embassy processed 87 passport applications, 8 civil registry/notarial documents, administered the oath of allegiance to 21 Filipinos who reacquired their Filipino citizenship through the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003, and registered 62 Filipinos as overseas voters.

The Embassy team included Vice Consul Angela Kristel Laurente, Ms. Leonora de Ramos, and Mr. Rodrigo Gavino and Migrant Workers Office OIC Oscar David. Supported by Honorary Consul General Januario John Rivas AM, the mobile consular mission offered essential services to the expanding Filipino community in the Northern Territory, alleviating the need for them to travel to Philippine Foreign Service Posts in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne.

According to the 2021 Australian Census, Filipinos are the largest migrant community in the Northern Territory with over 7,000 Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent. - END
