03 July 2026, SYDNEY – Minister and Consul General Sheila Marie Tario of the Philippine Embassy in Canberra joined the Timek Iti La Union Association, Inc. (TILA UNA) at its annual Christmas in July celebration held at the Rooty Hill School of Arts in Sydney, where she delivered the event’s Christmas in July message. Philippine Consul General in Sydney Greg Marie Marino also attended the celebration and delivered an inspirational message.
In her remarks, Minister and Consul General Tario reflected on the enduring values of family, gratitude, generosity, and community, noting that while Filipinos and Australians celebrate Christmas differently, its true spirit transcends seasons and borders. Drawing from her own family history, she shared the story of her late grandfather, who was born in Naguilian, La Union, and reflected on the values of humility, perseverance, integrity, and service that she has come to associate with the people of La Union and the wider Ilocano community.
Minister and Consul General Tario also congratulated TILA UNA for more than two decades of service and recognized the dedication of its officers, volunteers, and members in supporting educational and humanitarian initiatives and strengthening the Filipino community in Australia. She noted that as the Philippines and Australia celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, organizations such as TILA UNA continue to strengthen the friendship between the two countries through people-to-people ties and volunteerism.
In her inspirational message, Consul General Marino commended TILA UNA for its longstanding contributions to the Filipino community, particularly its scholarship program and efforts to preserve Filipino culture and heritage.
TILA UNA President Jane Arciaga Estoesta welcomed the guests and members of the Association. The celebration was also attended by Blacktown City Deputy Mayor Councillor Carol Israel and Philippine Community Council of New South Wales President Grace Liston, together with leaders and members of the Filipino-Australian community. The evening featured fellowship, cultural performances and Christmas festivities. END
