The Manila Chamber Singers (MCS) had a successful Australian Tour from 26 October to 12 November 2013 starting in Brisbane, then in Sydney and lastly in Canberra. They performed in various churches and parishes, arts centres, malls and schools.
In Canberra, the Embassy hosted an evening concert for MCS on 06 November 2013 at the Wesley Music Centre. Guests were members of the Diplomatic Corps, officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other Australian government agencies, ACT Multicultural officials, members of the academe from the Australian National University, Filipino community leaders in Canberra and other friends.
The Filipino Community Council of the ACT (FCCACT) also organized an evening concert on 07 November 2013 for the Filipino-Australian community in Canberra. The Rondanihan Group serenaded the audience with the beauty and sound of Philippine native musical instruments followed by the beautiful voices of the MCS.
Other MCS performances in Canberra were held at the Ngunnawal Primary School on 05 Nov., Garema Place on 06 Nov., Canberra Shopping Centre on 07 Nov., Radford College and Australian National University on 08 Nov, and lastly at St. Christopher’s Cathedral on 10 Nov. before leaving for Sydney.
The Manila Chamber Singers (MCS) is composed of students and non-professional singers from different vocations who share a passion for choral music. It was founded in April 1999 and its repertoire includes standard international choral songs as well as commissioned arrangements of popular music and OPM (Original Pilipino Music). It has represented the Philippines in various international choir festivals and competitions in Europe and Asia.
