FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY (ACT) CELEBRATE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

27 June 2023 – Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega joined the Filipino community in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the declaration of the independence of the Philippines in the Independence Ball organized by the Filipino Communities Council of the ACT (FCCACT) on 24 June 2023 at the Southern Cross Club.

In her remarks, Ambassador De La Vega congratulated the officers and members, including all organization members of the FCCACT. The Ambassador referred to the Filipino Communities Council of Australia (FILCCA) National Convention that will take place in Canberra this October and encouraged the guests to support and attend the convention. The FILCCA national convention is an important gathering to discuss key issues that affect the Filipino community in Australia and introduce new initiatives. Ambassador De La Vega confirmed her participation in the convention organized by the peak body of Filipino community organizations in the country.

Hon David Smith MP also delivered remarks and congratulated the community on the celebration of Filipino democracy. He underscored the importance of upholding democratic principles among communities and especially across the world.

The program showcased the famous Filipino song, “Ang Bayan ko” rendered by Ms. Alexa Francia and Ms. Belle Padillo. Filipino regional dances were performed by FCCACT officers, Filipino Language School (FLS), Philippine Cultural Society (PCS), and ACT Filipino Australian Social and Cultural Association (ACTFA-FSA). -END-
