23 June 2021 – The Filipino community in Northern Territory gathered to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Philippines and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of the Philippines and Australia.
Honorary Consul General in Darwin John Rivas attended the event organized by the Filipino Australian Association of the NT (FAANT) led by its president, Ms. Emcille Lim Wills, on 19 June 2021 at the Filipino Community Centre in Darwin. The event featured Filipino performances and cuisine. In Tennant Creek also in NT, the Filipino community known as the Mabuhay Group gathered on 12 June 2021 to celebrate the twin events.
Northern Territory hosted one of the earliest settlements of Filipinos in Australia and in World War II, Filipinos were among those who perished in the bombing of Darwin in 1942. -- END
