/ news

The Philippine Embassy personnel led by First Secretary and Consul Nina Cainglet, First Secretary and Consul Jim Tito Agustin and Second Secretary and Consul Grace Anne Bulos participated in the “Manuka Celebrates” event in celebration of the Centenary of Canberra on Saturday, 12 October 2013 in Filipiniana dress. The Event was officially opened by Chief Minister Katy Gallagher.

It was a whole day affair comprising of live music and dancing, an exhibition of fascinating photographs of times gone by and social history articles, display of vintage cars and old fire trucks, as well as a walking tour of the area’s landmarks and points of interest.

Manuka is one of Canberra’s oldest shopping precints. Shops were first built around 1925 where customers lined up their Model T Fords along the streets and spending the day socializing and shopping.

As the Diplomatic Community is part of the Manuka areas, Embassies and High Commissions in Canberra were invited to attend the Event in traditional dresses to add colour to the memorable occasion.
