Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Mary Anne A. Padua led officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy during a simple Flag Raising ceremony held to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the People Power Revolution.
After the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recitation of the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat (Pledge of Allegiance to the Philippine Flag), Ms. Padua read President Benigno S. Aquino III’s message for the occasion. In his message, President Aquino, encouraged Filipinos to “keep alive the spirit of People Power and democracy, as we work together and fulfill our aspiration of a peaceful and progressive Philippines.”
The morning was capped with the viewing of the documentary “EDSA: The World Remembers” and a simple salu-salo.
The EDSA or People Power Revolution of February 1986 was a bloodless revolution that resulted in the downfall of the Marcos dictatorship, the installation of President Corazon C. Aquino as President and the restoration of democracy in the Philippines.
