Coconut products, certified organic, certified Pinoy: The Philippine Consulate General conducted a taste test of the Macro brand of coconut water or buko juice supplied by Peter Paul Philippines to Woolworths. The product boasts of being a “natural source of electrolytes and potassium,” “no added sugar” and “5-star health rating.” The packaging is also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. According to Gabriella Quimson (second from right), one of the company’s executives, the company which started in 1946 in Candelaria, Quezon to supply for a US brand was sold to a Filipino group in 1962. The company has expanded production facilities to produce other coconut products, such as coconut milk and cream, coconut water, virgin coconut oil, coconut flour/fiber, copra, copra cake, coconut oil, paring cake, paring oil, and other residual products, thus consolidating its strengths in the creation of an integrated coconut processing company.
