Brisbane City Council Officials Visit the Philippine Embassy in Canberra
23 March 2023, Canberra - Philippine Consul General in Canberra Mr. Aian Caringal met with Councillor Sarah Hutton, Brisbane City’s Deputy Chair of Economic Development and Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Committee, and Ms. Nicole Andronicus, Director of International Relations and Multicultural Affairs, Brisbane City Council, during their visit to the Philippine Embassy on 23 March 2023.
Ms. Andronicus introduced Brisbane City’s hosting of the 2023 Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) and Mayors’ Forum which will be held in Brisbane from 11 to 13 October 2023 and asked support in disseminating information to Philippine local officials on this important forum. She also discussed how the City of Brisbane can support Philippine objectives in the APCS, Asia Pacific's landmark event for city leaders and those involved in the business of cities. APCS aims to bring together one of the largest and most diverse gatherings of mayors in the region that will give them the opportunity to share insights on emerging opportunities for cities.
Councilor Hutton and Consul General Caringal further discussed ways on how the City of Brisbane can contribute to strengthening Philippines-Australia cooperation as the two countries work towards elevating their relations to a Strategic Partnership and as Brisbane prepares for its hosting of the 2032 Olympics.
The Philippine Embassy in Canberra, together with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Brisbane, provide consular services to Filipinos and other stakeholders in the State of Queensland. According to the 2021 Australian Census, there are over 73,000 Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent in the State of Queensland.
