03 September 2025, CANBERRA – Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio A. Morales met with Jason Wood MP, Federal Member for La Trobe, Victoria, and Shadow Minister for International Development and Pacific Island Affairs, on 03 September 2025.
The Ambassador and Mr. Wood discussed shared challenges and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific region. They exchanged views on the importance of strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation and reaffirmed the value of robust defense cooperation, including joint training exercises and high-level visits, as essential pillars of the Philippines-Australia Strategic Partnership.
Ambassador Morales expressed appreciation for Australia’s steadfast support for the Philippines in upholding international law, including the 2016 Arbitral Award, and for the support of the Philippines’ candidature to the UN Security Council.
Both Ambassador Morales and Shadow Minister Wood noted the growing role of the Philippines and Australia in supporting Pacific Island nations and highlighted the importance of providing development support that fosters stability, resilience, and sustainable development in the Pacific.
The Philippines and Australia elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in September 2023 and will mark the 80th anniversary of bilateral ties in 2026. - END
