01 December 2023, CANBERRA – Upon the invitation of the Senator, Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega and Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, Shadow Foreign Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Senate, met in Parliament on 30 November and discussed the enduring relations of the Philippines and Australia.

The Ambassador briefed Senator Birmingham on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership of the Philippines and Australia and the plan of action that both countries will pursue in particular on new areas of cooperation. The Philippines and Australia are committed to expand maritime cooperation and to advance trade and investment relations. Senator Birmingham reiterated his support to the South China Sea Arbitration Award of 2016 and recalled the cooperation of the Philippines and Australia in supporting Pacific island countries. -- END
