Ambassador De La Vega and Filipino community in Adelaide meet for the first time since pandemic

22 March 2023, ADELAIDE – Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega met the Filipino community in South Australia during a forum organized by the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Adelaide on 21 March.

The Ambassador conveyed her appreciation for the resilience and generosity demonstrated by the community at the height of the pandemic and provided updates on the bilateral relations of the Philippines and Australia. She referred to the 7.6 percent GDP growth in the country and encouraged them to actively pursue economic opportunities as overseas Filipino investors. During the forum, the Ambassador addressed questions relating to international students, consular services and promotion of Philippine products and investment opportunities.

According to the 2021 Census, there are over 21,000 Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent in the State of South Australia. The Ambassador encouraged eligible voters to register for the 2025 national elections. -- END
