Public Advisory on Heat Wave Conditions in Australia

The Philippine Embassy in Australia wishes to share the following heatwave advisory received from the ACT Emergency Services:

“The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts severe heatwave conditions for the ACT and surrounding region with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees by Wednesday.

The ACT Ambulance Service urge Canberrans to be ready for the high temperatures this week by knowing how to avoid heat-related stress with these simple steps:

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water;

  2. Plan your day around the heat and try to avoid being outdoors between 11am and 3pm;

  3. Check on others especially the elderly, young children and babies, pregnant women and those with medical conditions;

  4. Do not leave pets or children unattended in hot cars and;

  5. Stay indoors and make use of fans and air conditioners.

Signs for heat stress can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fainting, weakness, headaches, and if sweating stops. Call Emergency Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance if you or someone else is showing signs of heat stress.

ACT Rural Fire Service remind the ACT community that it is important to give yourself and your property the best chance of survival during a bushfire threat by making a Bushfire Survival Plan.
