TRIBYANG PINOY CHALLENGE 2016 IN CANBERRA
27 August 2016 – In celebration of Buwan ng Wika and 70th Anniversary of Philippine-Australia Relations, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra joined the Fourth Annual Tribyang Pinoy Challenge organized by the Filipino Language School of Canberra on 27 August 2016 at the Weston Creek Community Centre in Canberra, Australia. This yearly event also raises funds to support the Filipino Language School’s operations. The school caters to both Filipinos and Australians wanting to learn the language, a fitting platform for people-to-people linkages while contributing to multi-culturalism in Australia. Read more:
PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES “ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROJECT” IN CURTIN SOUTH PRESCHOOL IN CANBERRA
17 August 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Australia Minda Calaguian-Cruz and members of the Philippine Embassy in Canberra implemented the very first activity of the Embassy’s “Adopt-A-School” project in Curtin South Preschool in Canberra on 17 August 2016. Notice is hereby given that under Republic Act No. 9189 as amended by Republic Act. No. 10590, all citizens of the Philippines abroad, who are not disqualified by law, at least eighteen (18) years of age on May 13, 2019, and who are registered overseas voters, may vote for Senators and Party-List Representatives. NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC ON VISA APPLICATIONS
Effective 01 October 2016, the Philippine Embassy will no longer accept non-machine readable passports from all visa applicants. This applies to all types of passports.
This is in line with the policy of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) that it shall no longer allow the entry of foreign nationals holding non-machine readable passports in all airports and seaports by the 1st quarter of 2017.

Cruz, former Philippine Ambassador to Korea, had an open discussion with students of the Australian National University (ANU) International Relations Society on 03 August 2016. NORTHERN TERRITORY GOVERNMENT HONOURS 26 FILIPINO PROFESSIONALS AS THE PHILIPPINES AND AUSTRALIA MARK 70 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
29 July 2016 – The Northern Territory Government of the Commonwealth of Australia awarded 26 Filipino professionals with a Certificate of Recognition for their meritorious service in their own fields of expertise on 29 July 2016 at the Northern Territory Parliamentary House in Darwin. Hon Peter Styles MLA, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Asian Engagements and Trade of the Northern Territory, led the awarding ceremony.
